don't worry, you're not the only one.

Now days we have all kinds of access to technology. We hold extraordinary power in our hot little hands- our smart phones are 1000 times more powerful that the computers I remember having as a kid (floppy discs... hello!!). With such amazing computing power at our fingertips, we have the ability to track our lives in very powerful ways. There are apps that willtrack progress on just about anything- we can track personal goals focused on health and wellbeing- how many steps we take, how many times a week we've meditated, how far we've jogged/ hiked/ biked or climbed. Professionally, we can track website traffic, likes on social media and top selling products or services. We have access to all kinds of data and analytics.

OK. So....Where am I going with this? Well, I have to admit I can be a bit of a geek when it comes to data and trend analysis and I recently read a statistic that got me thinking about this cool little topic for the blog. The statistic I read was that gyms see an increase of 33-50% in volume come January with what they call the "New Years Resolution Crowd". It's reported that the second week of January is almost always the busiest of the year for gyms. Then, about 80% of the New Years Resolutions crowd drops off by the second week of February. So this means that on average, 80% of those who set out with a "get fit" New Years resolution taper off around this time.

There is a reason for this!

When I read these statistics, I wasn't surprised. There are countless studies on New Year resolutions that prove that they simply don't work. A New Year's resolution is just will power turned on the last day of the year. And if we could make meaningful change just by declaring our will power as "ON" when it comes to communicating more clearly and more authentically from a place of power, tapping into abundance, getting that dream job, finding the partner of your dreams, restoring your zest for life and living in optimum health then I mean, lets face it, we'd be making all kinds of awesome and permanent change without fuss, frustration or set back.

And then all of a sudden it's April!

However, for us humans, change is hard! There is also all kinds of studies published about the psychology of change which highlight all the "stuff" we humans are up against when it comes to making meaningful, sustainable change in our life. The trends in these studies are, again, not shocking. They tell of a story that is all too familiar and goes like this: you get a notion, you declare what you'll change, take a few steps in the right direction and then BAM before you know it is April and your Spring break vacation has arrived, that teeny weenie yellow polka dot bikini ain't getting any bigger and your are not the 15lbs lighter version of yourself that you resolved yourself to be when you clinked champagne classes with your bestie as the clock struck midnight on December 31.

Whatever the failed change may have been- getting healthier, learning to meditate, being more communicative with your partner or rekindling the spark of romance in your once hot (now lukewarm) sex life....the pattern is the same: the self-nagging begins, the disappointment sets in. You are frustrated at your lack of action. You are ashamed because you promised yourself this time you'd rock that bikini and you failed, again.

For me the worst emotion is shame at having failed. It's unbearable.

The sense of shame is HUGE. It's so big that is causes people to stop trying to improve because they can't bear the feeling of trying and failing.

Your story can be different.

So, you've tried and failed. Don't worry, you're not the only one. BUT, I stand for you having a different outcome this year. Your story can be different. 4) As you process and re-program your belief system we will clear emotion and physical blocks through energy healing.
5) We'll get into and process fear. The number one reason that we fail at making progress or change is because we often fear being successful at our goals. What if we're successful and then fall back into where we were? We will have to work even harder to maintain the success we achieve in the first place... Or, we worry that if we are successful at this goal, then there is an expectation placed on us to be great at everything! Yes, we dig into these crazy stories that we create out of our belief system.

A new light shines bright for us as we step into this brand new cycle! I'm not one for making a big list of resolutions but I do love making time to get quiet and reconnect with my heart this time of year; I check in with what's swirling inside of me and use it to create my path forward.

To help you start your New Year off in this connected way, I wanted to share this simple Heart's Desire Meditation Exercise that will help you anchor in to your hearts deepest longing. Get quiet, get still, hear the whispers of your heart, capture them in your journal or day planner and let them guide the way for you this year.

Heart's Desire Meditation: Find a quiet, peaceful space. Sit or lay comfortably on the floor. close your eye. Exhale all your air and at the bottom of your exhale, stay empty for a count of three. Slowly and gently, breath in through the nose, filling your lungs. At the top of the exhale, pause for three counts. Repeat this breath sequence two more times. Feel the space within your body once you're complete and let the breath return to its natural rhythm. Tune into the sound of your heart beat. Imagine the heart space as a warm, illuminated chamber. Enter inside. Take off your shoes and have a seat at the altar within. Ask yourself, "what does my heart desire"?What lives within you, asking to be birthed? What possibility waits to be lived into? What do you wish to create? Capture what calls to your heart on a blank page. Review what came to you in the stillness of this exercise. How does what you've captured make you feel? What do you need to release to bring your heart's desire to life? Where must you go? What must you learn? If you were already living your heart's desire, how would you complete the statement "I AM..." On a new blank page, complete the following declarations:

sole: himalayan salt water solution & why you should use it

Earlier this year, I went on an a m a z i n g roadtrip adventure to the West Coast to attend the Victoria Yoga Conference. While I was there, I was introduced to something pretty incredible called "Sole" (sol-ay).

Sole is the result you get when you mix (ethically mined/ food grade) himalyan salt with (pure/ spring) water. While simple in terms of its two ingredient make, it is a pretty impression little concotion. The  solution is chalked full of minerals and is an electrolyte balancer; the idea is to take a teaspoon of Sole every day, like a supplement, on an empty stomach.

How Does it Work?

We've all heard about electrolytes and the importance of staying hydrated- proper electrolyte balance is necessary for nerve and muscle function, and to regulate blood pressure. If things get imbalanced, either with too many electrolytes or too few, you may experience anything from weakness to the most extreme outcome, death. You can get plenty of sodium from table salt, so why Himalayan? Well, table salt doesn’t have the good trace minerals that (ehtically mined!!!) Himalayan salt does, specifically potassium and calcium, the two other most important electrolytes. These are the three electrolytes that facilitate muscle contraction. Without a proper balance of them, you’d feel weak or cramp up. But what you may not realize is that our bodies use up electrolytes just like water. Electrolyte deficiency is different than dehydration; hydrating doesnt mean we are getting enough electrolytes. Himalayan salt is rich in minerals; it has many healthy and difficult-to-consume-enough-of minerals like iron, sulphate, magnesium, chloride, and iodine, among others. These minerals promote health, and are often difficult to consume with regularity if your diet is varied.

Sole is an all natural electrolyte supplement that comes straight from the Earth. How amazing is that?

I purchased the salt for my Sole from Salt of Life, a vendor at the yoga conference who specializes in ethically-mined himalayan salt. Chistine, the owner of Salt of Life took me on a salt journey to help me understand the difference between himalyan salt that was ethically and naturally harvested vs. that which has been harvested via more technologically advanced methods. The natural salt was subtle on the tongue while the other was quite noticably more "salty"... sounds weird I know, but by way of the taste test it became very clear to me what processing does to the salt that unnessarily changes its taste and benefit.

How to Make Sole...

It's so simple- just take your ethically-mined bag of salt and place them in a class ceramic jar with approx a quart of purified water (i use water from the natural spring in Banff) for 24 hours. Let the salt and water do its thing, and voila! You have Sole.  The large chunks will gradually dissolve as you add fresh, unsaturated water to the container. Using this method will ensure you never run out of Himalayan Sole Solution.

You don't have worry about the salt going bad because this solution is completely antimicrobial. Start taking about one tablespoon per day in 8 ounces of purified water  every morning on an empty stomach. Remember, you’re still consuming salt, and too much can have a negative effect on your blood pressure; always check with your own health care practioner before you begin any new health regime but my experience with this so far has been great. I feel energized by the solution as part of my regular routine.
